Shell Operculum ("Cat's Eye") – Madagascar

This small, glossy disc is a turban snail's operculum — the hard "trapdoor" it uses to seal its shell for protection. Sometimes sold in the trade as a "shell fossil" or "cat's eye," it's technically a modern shell structure rather than an ancient fossil, but it's every bit as striking: a swirled spiral pattern in warm ambers and deep browns on one face, with a smooth, mottled cream-and-green exterior on the other.

Naturally durable and endlessly tactile — a great little piece for a desk, a pocket, or just picking up and turning over in your hand.
